Julia Paxton is a Research Study Supervisor with Washington State University’s APPROACHES Lab, working primarily with Dr. Liat Kriegel, collecting data for community based participatory research and evaluation related to community mental health, reentry experiences, housing and homelessness. She is also a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and has taught MHFA classes to dozens of partner organizations throughout Washington State.

Prior to coming to WSU, Julia worked in direct care roles in the social services field for 15 years, and has extensive experience working with children, youth and adults with serious mental illnesses and substance use disorders in lockdown, residential, outpatient, and clinical settings. She holds a BA in Communication and Public Service from the University of Pennsylvania.

Outside of work she enjoys gardening, sailing, writing, and checking out the local art scene.
