In the United States, 300,000 young people will experience their first episode of psychosis (FEP) each year. The long-term impact of psychosis is substantial: those who go on to develop schizophrenia have a life expectancy that is reduced by 10 years. The first episode of psychosis is a critical intervention point that can affect short and long-term mental health outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coordinated specialty care (CSC) has become the gold standard for early psychosis care, and improves the quality of life and reduces psychiatric symptoms for many individuals, relative to those who receive typical care (i.e., standard outpatient services. CSC models deliver multiple evidence-informed interventions and practices to address the needs of individuals with early psychosis and their family member\/support persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, Washington State launched New Journeys CSC model in Yakima, WA and has since expanded to more than 15 programs serving more than 13 counties throughout Washington. New Journeys Network Implementation and Evaluation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Principal Investigator\/Project Lead:<\/strong> Dr. Oladunni Oluwoye<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past 8 years, our Measurement Delivery and Evaluation Team has developed a network-wide data platform to facilitate measurement-based care, evidence-based practice, and the yearly evaluation. Grounded in implementation science and the use of implementation strategies, we conduct in-person and virtual trainings to all members in the New Journeys Network on the assessment battery, use of the data platform, and MBC. In addition we offer continuous technical assistance and facilitation meetings to support teams. Fidelity to the data-driven and measurement elements and use of the data delivery platform are continuously monitored for fidelity by our team. Our Measurement Delivery and Evaluation Team works closely with collaborators from the Health Care Authority leading FEP policy and administration, DSHS RDA leading FEP incidence reporting using Medicaid claims data, and the UW SPIRIT Center and their implementation team.<\/p>\n\n\n
